Praise for the Book: Surviving Prostate Cancer Without SurgeryI've read your book and it's absolutely wonderful. - J.I. I read your book. I totally agree with you - the system is corrupt. They are taking advantage of the patients. - A cardiologist I had a guy telephoned me the other day. Stressed out with his diagnosis. Could he come to my home and ask me a few questions, and bring his girlfriend with him? It's not something I would normally do, but I relented. He was reasonably laid back, but I could see that the pressure to have instant treatment was coming from his girlfriend. She would say to me "Tell him that if he doesn't have the surgery he will die" She was really frantic and I was already regretting the arrangement. Fortunately I had just received your copy of 'Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery' and was able to pick out some salient points, which managed to calm her down. The guy has now got an appointment to see a brachytherapy artist in a few weeks time. So your book has already saved at least one man from the 'cure' from hell. :-) - E-mail I received the book today. It's a good background read for anyone Dx'd with PC. - E-mail Just got finished reading your book. You have done a fantastic job! A job well done. You certainly have made your case against the RP and the urology profession. This book certainly establishes you as THE EXPERT. The cover of the book is quiet and unassuming but when I opened the book and started reading page after page it practically blew me away. In fact I read the book twice. The flow of the information was flawless and very easy for the non-medical person to understand. I felt I knew more about urology then the urologists when I finished the book. - A man via e-mail When you or someone you know receives a diagnosis of prostate cancer what won't be realized is not only will one battle have to be fought with the cancer but a second battle will also have to be fought against the very profession - the urologists that treat prostate cancer. You will learn the shocking truth that your interests of treating the cancer the best way possible and prolonging the quality of your life are not the interests of the urology profession. "Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery" investigates in careful detail the inner workings of the urology profession and how they will work against you. You will enter a world you couldn't possible imagine would exist in this day and age. Page after page will reveal shocking and startling details of the true nature of the urology profession. You will be angry to learn the practices of the urology profession possibly caused your cancer and of possible warning signs, which could have been easily treated medically, were ignored before your cancer developed. You will quickly realize that going to a urologist without reading this book is like trying to cross a busy highway blindfolded. The treatment offered by your urologist could be worse than the actual disease and might even contribute to the spread of your cancer and cause your death rather then prevent it. The information in this easy to understand book written for the average person will guide you in the right direction. You will learn of more effective treatments your urologist probably won't even tell you about. It will enable you to make your own decisions of what treatment is best for you so that you can survive prostate cancer without surgery and have the best quality of life possible. Don't be another victim. Reading this book will give you the knowledge to win both battles. You will beat the urologists at their own game! What you don't know can and will hurt you. "Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery" is a must read if you value your life or the life of someone close to you. - A man in central eastern USA I think it may be the best first book that I have seen. I like your stories and the cartoons. You have made a conscious effort to educate without brow beating. - A urologist CONGRATULATIONS! The book is impressive, well written and simply DYNAMITE! The back cover is an eye catcher AND attention grabber. You started it well with the quotes and the Big Lie because it made me want to read through the rest of the book. I can only imagine what the impact your book will have on urologists, sufferers, and the general population. It is understandable and easy to read. You wrote the book with strength, courage and conviction. - E-mail from a woman Your book contains a lot of data backed with hard evidence not usually available to lay people. It's a very good book to learn "evidenced based medicine." - E-mail from overseas Your book contains a lot of data backed up with hard evidence not available to lay people - a very good book to learn evidence base medicine. - E-mail This seems to be very comprehensive treatise and I am sure that a great many men will find it an excellent source of guidance and reassurance, should they also become victims of this disease. - A man in New York What a blockbuster you have written! - A man in Florida I must be honest that I have at times considered murder when I think of the betrayal by my urologist, the impact this has had on my life and my relationship with my beautiful wife and on my general day to day activity which is now curtailed because of incontinence. I used to enjoy carpentry and D.I.Y. around the house until I had surgery. But murder is not in my make-up so I will have to 'get him' some other way. We need more doctors like yourself who still believe in the oath they undertook. - E-mail My wife is sat reading it at the moment and she has just read out from the book 'Many women feel left out in the cold' and 'Women sometimes feel betrayed', so your book has struck a chord with her straight away. - E-mail I received your book in the post today and my first impressions are what a great book it is. At last straight talking, no spin, from someone from the medical profession. - E-mail Some men gain almost complete control of their urinary function but many don't ( bet they didn't tell you that pre-op ) None will recover normal sexual function. All will be sterile, all will have smaller penises. Those that do achieve erections will only have partial erections. I have yet to see a study showing that RP will extend my life by a single day so it is a high price to pay for 'getting it out'. I had stage T2C Gleason 3+3 PCa so I guess I would still be here now if I had done Watchful Waiting, which is not doing nothing, but I wouldn't be peeing myself everyday and I would be enjoying sex a couple of times a week with my beautiful wife which I really used to enjoy more than I appreciated at the time. I don't know what your pre-surgery stats were but I'll wager you are amongst the 80 percent of men who need not have opted for such a radical solution. As Bradley Hennenfent M.D. says in his new book 'Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery' "Sometimes a falsehood can be so big, so incredible, so threatening, that no one even dares to refute it. Is the epidemic of radical prostate surgery a conspiracy? It's at best an example of misguided medicine. The big lie in this case is the widespread claim that the radical prostatectomy cures prostate cancer, because to date, randomized controlled trials say otherwise." Welcome to this wonderful world of prostate cancer where incontinence and impotence are referred to as 'side effects'. Things will improve but life will never be quiet the same, that I am afraid is reality. - E-mail Dr. Hennenfent's new book, Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery, is about a very timely topic. Prostate cancer treatment and diagnosis is in a state of confusion with many issues in dispute. Many of the so-called experts do not agree with one other. Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery explains the treatment options and consequences in a manner easily understood by patients and their families. The illustrations should give you the confidence to ask questions and discuss with your physician the alternatives that would be best suited for you. No single book has ever contained such complete information. This book will enable you to make an intelligent decision about how to proceed after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. - A reader who read the galley The Most Common Urinary Diseases in Men Among men with genitourinary complaints, the three most common conditions are urethritis (which accounts for some 200,000 initial office visits each year), epididymitis (600,000 office visits), and prostatitis (approximately two million office visits for genitourinary symptoms--or one fourth of all such visits for men). This article is a review of diagnostic and management strategies for these commonly seen conditions.
